This week Room 6 is reading
Molly Morepork and the lost campers by Janet Martin.
Molly the Morepork only comes out at night. All of the other birds have gone to bed and she has nobody to play with. Then one night some children get lost in the bush. Can Molly show them the way back to their camp?
For word study, we searched the book looking for past tense verbs.
We sorted the verbs according to the spelling pattern:
- add -ed
- double the consonant and add -ed
- drop the silent e and add -ed
- change the y to an i and add -ed
The Morepork is a New Zealand Native Owl.
We researched other facts about Moreporks.
Write a comment about what you have found out about Moreporks.
Be sure to include facts that you have learned.

Wow, another great Auroa School event with many parents helping and supporting as always. Our community is so great!
The ability of the students is remarkable and a credit to the teachers at our school.
Well done to the parents who just bet the teachers and the students in the relay race on the last lap. We nearly had you! Thank you Miss Davidson, Miss Nicholas, Mrs Chittenden and Mr Spice for representing us.
We utilised a new sporting arena for our Swimming Sports this year. The Stratford Pools located in Startford, have worked a treat and will, I'm sure, be considered again next year.
To another great Auroa School swimming event... until next year when we will beat the parents,

We have been very lucky in the Junior School in the past two weeks. We have been creating Science experiments on Fridays for Discovery. We have made explosions, balloons that went zoom, made predictions, tested materials, made popcorn pop, made our own music, tested floating boats, made bubbles, wax resist, mixed colours, used salt to float eggs and many other great, get your hands dirty and make a lot of noise, stuff! We explained to each other how an experiment works and we worked on relating to each other while exploring through Science.
We would love more parents to come and join us in the fun on Fridays! 9am to 10.30am.
Have a nice weekend and see you at the swimming sports on Monday,

This week I received a remarkable link from a teacher who viewed our blog because of Mr Chittenden's recommendation. She viewed our blog and was so inspired she decided to create some dazzling art work just like us!
It is so nice to know that all of the hard work we put in to school each day and on our blog has been seen by so many other people. What a great feeling to know that we have inspired other people to do amazing things. WOW!
Here is the link to Melanie's blog to read all about it.
How does it feel, knowing you have inspired others?
Have a great day,
Armed with a book, an ipad and knowledge, these two boys completed an independent study of water and presented it on an app called Puppet Pals.

What a superb effort Jonte and Jackson!
This is their first attempt so I can't wait to see what the boys will do next.
What do you think of Jonte and Jacksons work?
Have you used Puppet Pals?
Try it yourself. Puppet Pals is an app we use school wide at Auroa. It is an easy way for children to create and record their own animated shorts. It is available for the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad. There is a free version and then a paid option where you can create your own puppets from real life photos and backgrounds. A great way to create animated retellings of stories.
